Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before your first visit. Still have questions? Call us at 304-900-0866.

Do I need a referral from my doctor before starting physical therapy?

No. West Virginia is a direct-access state, meaning you don't need a referral to see a physical therapist. You can book directly with us and get started.

What should I expect during my physical therapy sessions?

Sessions include an assessment of your condition, hands-on manual techniques to improve mobility, individualized exercises to reach your goals, and education on how to prevent future injury or pain — including posture, body mechanics, and lifestyle guidance.

How long will my sessions last?

You get a full one-hour session with a doctor of physical therapy every visit — you'll never split your treatment time with another patient.

What should I wear or bring?

Dress in comfortable, loose clothing that lets you move easily. Bring any relevant paperwork from your medical history — x-rays, ultrasounds, or doctor's notes — and any brace or special shoes your provider recommended.

How can I prepare for my first appointment?

Arrive well-rested so you can give the session your full energy, and keep track of any pain medication you take beforehand so your therapist can adjust the intensity of treatment accordingly.

How often will I need to come in?

It depends on your goals and condition, but most patients attend 2–3 times per week for a minimum of 4–6 weeks to maximize results. Your therapist will map out a plan at your first visit.

How soon will I see results?

Every situation is unique, but with commitment from both you and your therapist, most people start seeing results within a few weeks. The more positive lifestyle changes you make, the faster your progress.

Are there exercises I can do at home between visits?

Yes. Your therapist will give you specific home exercises to speed up your recovery and progress you faster toward your goals. Following them carefully makes a big difference.

Will insurance cover my physical therapy?

It depends on your plan — most cover some or all of the cost. Check with your provider to confirm coverage and any fees, and see our insurance page for the plans we work with.

What if I feel too much pain during a session?

Tell your therapist right away. They'll adjust the intensity or technique so that treatment stays comfortable and effective for you.

What if I have questions after my session?

Your doctor of physical therapy is available to answer questions before and after every visit, and you can always contact the clinic directly. We want you to get the most out of every session.

How will I know when I no longer need physical therapy?

Your therapist will guide you based on your progress, goals, and overall health, and let you know when you're ready to graduate from care.
